Living Heritage Award

Living heritage award is given to individuals to recognize their lifelong commitment to promote certain crafts or arts. Each year, members of the public can nominate a prominent figure, an expert in his or her crafts or arts to receive this prestigious award. The nomination can be submitted to Penang Heritage Trust. This award is an annual activity jointly organized by Penang Heritage Trust-HSBC Bank "Living Heritage Treasures of Penang".

Here are several award recipients who have been acknowledged to be an expert in their respective field. All of them value their crafts above money or fame. They are so dedicated to keep on creating wonderful pieces of arts using the old ways despite modernization or simpler methods.

Lee Khek Hock The last maker of traditional bamboo and wax paper lantern. 2007 Award Winner	Toh Ai Wah The matriarch of Teochew puppet opera. 2008 Award Winner
Mohd. Bahroodin Ahmad (passed away in 2008) Cultural Expert in bangsawan and Malay performing arts. 2005 Award Winner	Kok Ah Wah Traditional signboard engraver.  2008 Award Winner
Noo Wan @ Wan Dee Aroonratana Shaman/Thai Menora Performer/Cultural Expert 2007 Award Winner	Ooi Saw Kim @ Ooi Ah Kan Narrator/Singer/Owner Hokkien Glove Puppet Theatre 2006 Award Winner
