Nine Emperor God

by Alice Loh
(Taman Jelutong)

Since I was young, I will follow my grandmother to go to the temple during 9th month of Chinese calendar. I like to make wish & according to stories that The God will help to come true our wish. After praying, we will go to buy for vegetarian foods. There are lots of hawker sold foods over there every year. My grandmother used to cook for vegetarian until 9 days. According to the vegetarians, all the utensil must be new & clean.

DOs & DONTs
by: Kelvin Liew Peng Chuan

That's a very nice spiritual experience with grandma ;) Most of us,if not all, have our first few taste of life from our grannies & grandpas, from spiritual to food to conduct..yeah..coz they nag..nag..and nag! hahaha...

anyway, tht's what life is all about, life long learning through whatever means.

well, to add on to your notes there, Nine Emperor Gods Vegetarian feast is one really strict..and to some non-devotees,it may seem leceh..but anyway,i'm going to share the do's & don'ts

All the utensils to cook & for dining must be free from meat.It is a common practise to keep aside a seperate set for this occasion.

The vegetarian food must be free from garlic & other bulbous & pungent vegetables.

One cannot partake in any ceremonies or even take vegetarian diet in name of the Gods if one is in mourning.

Nine Emperor Gods festival in Butterworth
by: Peter

I've followed the Nine Emperor Gods festival a few times now and I think it's one of the great festivals in the country. I wrote a page about it for my Pangkor website: Nine Emperor Gods festival

I really enjoyed it being there and I hope this year I can visit again.
