Solo Performance During the First Anniversary of Penang UNESCO Celebration

Solo performance by Marion D’cruz will be specially presented to you in Penang on 25th and 26th July 09 respectively. This is in conjunction of the First Anniversary of George Town as a World Heritage Site celebration.

This special show called "Gostan Forward". It will showcase a solo dance also a lecture by Marion D'Cruz. The show will bring back her overlapping roles as a student, dancer, choreographer and also an educator. She is also the executive producer of Five Arts Dancers, that co-produce the show with Ombak Ombak Arts Center.

This performance lecture traces her growth as a radical artist. You will get to know her choices, strategies and also personal growth in the span of her 35-year artistic career as a dancer in Malaysia.

She will tell stories and perform excerpts of her favorite and more significant dances including "Terinai", "Swan Song", "Urn Piece", "Chilayu" and many more.

Marion D'Cruz has been active in Malaysian arts scene since the 1970's. Even being a non-Malay, she learned and mastered a lot of different types of Malay dances in addition to contemporary dances as well.  She even had the chance to learn wayang kulit by Dalang Hamzah, who was one of the last Dalangs in Malaysia.

Gostan Forward was first performed at The Annexe Gallery, Central Market in May, 2009.

It was done in collaboration with Director Mark Teh and visual designs by Grey Yeoh.
